Best free media player

Was so surprised to see a mate of mine using a media player that cost him so much and just did not deliver. Wasn’t sure if I did him a favour when I told him he could get a free one that would be ten times better. The ten times better one is VLC you can get it at www.videolan.org it plays on Windows xp/Vista/7. Mac OSX or Linux. It’s a very compact player and the latest version handles MPEG-4 lossless and VP8 videos!

How to add Twitter follow badge to your site

add Twitter follow badge to your site

Got a couple of requests asking me how to add the “ follow me “ twitter badge to a site, you can see it on the right side of this blog.

To add one like this go to this page twitter follow badge page and complete the details. You will get some code and all you have to do is add it to your site. I only use wordpress nowadays so if you do to, then your in luck.

You can go into the Editor link and look for footer.php file open up the footer code and at the bottom you will find </body> tag.  Just put the code you just got in front of the </body> tag. Don’t forget to take a copy of the footer.php just in case things don’t quite work out right.

What can I use in place of Wikipedia

Wikipedia and what else

Very quick one as the actress said to the bishop – what else can I use apart from Wikipedia

Here is what I use

Factbites.com – very precise info bit like a cross between a search engine and an encyclopaedia.

About.com – this site does list the author so check them out on-line before taking everything at face vlaue.

Britannica.com – an old faithful but does cost about 8$ a month

Use Latin to help you design a document

Had a document that a friend of mine picked up from my desk yes I suppose he was being a little bit nosey. Anyhow he commented on the text, and it’s maybe something you yourself have seen its called “ Mangled Latin” and starts of like this: “Lorem ipsum………….you have more than likely seen it on website templates. I use latin to help me design a document before I actually put the real text in it. What it basically does is it helps with visualising the final layout. So instead of cutting and pasting or rather just wasting time typing rubbish text into a word document , you can simply enter this command. Just type =rand() or =lorem() and hit Enter. The first command repeats the famous sentence “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” it does this three times if using office 2003 or writes three lines of random text in office 2007. The other command =lorem() only works in office 2007 and produces three paragraphs of the Mangled Latin the “Lorem ipsum stuff. Repeat the commands as necessary or you can add the number of sentences you want in each paragraph by adding the number in the brackets, separated by a comma so for example =rand(3,3).
So now you know what “mangled latin” is and maybe how you too can use latin to help you lol – enjoy your day!
